What do you attribute your success to?
My success as a Master Resume Writer comes from many years working in a corporate environment with executives at all levels. My background as a Technical Writer, Corporate Policy and Procedure Writer, and Real Estate Advertising Specialist taught me to “write tight!” I encourage comfortable conversation and have a genuine talent for storytelling. I don’t just type resumes; I tell career stories. I also attribute my success to using a personalized approach, speaking to understand, staying on top of writing trends, and my creative eye for color and design. After nearly 17 years, I still love what I do. I believe everyone has a story worth telling.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received (from a Corporate Executive) was, never present a problem unless you have a solution to solve it. Also, never say, "I can't." Say instead, "Yes!" then figure out how to do it!
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Own your voice, trust your instincts, lead with empathy and confidence. Listen carefully, ask meaningful questions, and help clients see the best in themselves. Oftentimes, a client will tell me, "I'd hire me!" Once they see all their accomplishments on paper it gives them a spark of confidence! Invest in growth, study writing, marketing, design, storytelling, and be a good listener. Be kind, help someone who just lost their job feel comfortable speaking with you. In addition, protect your boundaries, value your time, be clear about what you offer, and always be on time! Being on time is respectful and sets the right tone from the beginning.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges I find now is that clients think they can use just AI to craft their resumes. This leaves out the human connection of conversation and subtle nuances that only a Master Resume Writer can provide. I see an opportunity to use AI as a tool, and an idea generator. For resume writers, opportunities abound to create LinkedIn Profiles, professional bios, letters, 30/60/90-day plans, websites, etc. I believe the future of resume writing (or any writing) blends the human touch with AI efficiency.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Creativity, integrity and doing meaningful work. I value doing work that positively impacts the lives of others. I believe in storytelling whether guiding a client through a career transition or writing a children’s story that inspires young minds, I’m driven by the desire to make a lasting, thoughtful difference.
